Charlottesville has a local paper called "C-ville" and the magazine has a regular feature called "The Rant". "The Rant" is a written publication of voice mail messages left at the paper by people who want to vent about issues that are bothering them. In the October 9, 2012 to October 15, 2012 edition, someone left the following message which was ultimately published in The Rant:
"I know lots of pople whose parents are divorced. And when the parents parents get divorced, I think it's harder on the kids than it is on the parents. And I know people whose parents are divorced who dealth with it really well, and I know people whose parents are divorced who dealt with it really bad. And parents should stay together for the sake of the kids."
Divorce is hard on children. That is why I frequently recommend marital counseling to my clients in an effort to save the marriage when children are involved and talk and write to them at length about what they can do to minimize the impact the divorce has on the children. I also provide my clients a written brochure called "Spare the Child:A Guide to Parenting During Family Dissolution." This brochure is used in conjunction with the Virginia State Bar's "Spare the Child" video presentation which can be viewed here. I also recommend that my clients view this video as well when children are involved.
